The movie was released worldwide on ott(Over-the-top media service) service Netfilx, not theaters. Space Sweeper is a Korean movie directed by Sung-Hee Cho. Specifically, it belongs to the space opera film, one of the genres of science fiction movie.

The main casts are Jung-Gi Song, Tae-Ri Kim, Seon-Gyu Jin, Hae-Jin Yu, Ye-Rin Park. They are famous actors that almost everyone knows in Korea. The running time is 136 minutes, about 2 hours 10 minutes.

In 2092, Humankind created UTS, a new human residence in space satellite orbit because the Earth was sick. Tae-Ho, Captain Jang, Tiger Park, Eom-Dong are space sweepers of cleaning ship Seung-Ni. They earn money by picking up space junk.

One day, Seung-Ri who collected the broken space station find Dorothy, a humanoid robot hidden in station. Dorothy was known as weapon of mass destruction. Sailors who desperate for money plan a risky deal to trade Dorothy for a lot of money.

Sci-Fi Sci-Fi movies are not produced often in Korea. Nevertheless, Space Sweepers is a blockbuster movie that costs 24 billion won. Because It is a large-scale movie, people looked forward to release at theater. However, the movie could not be released at theater due to COVID-19.

Koreans who are still unfamiliar with Sci-Fi may not accept Space Sweepers in the first place. While the release of movie was being delayed, Netflix offered to buy Space Sweepers for 3 billion won. As a result, it was profitable that the movie was released on Netflix, not in theaters.

The day the movie was released on Netflix, Space Sweepers ranked number one worldwide and started to gain popularity. Ever since, the movie continues to rank in the top ten and attracted people’s attention from all over the world. The. audience Score of Movie posted by netizens on portal sites was 8 out of 10.

Space Sweepers has an adventure story that have seen somewhere. Korean main characters and Korean elements give feeling like a new Sci-Fi movie that never seen before. For example, this movie features a Korean card game HwaTu.

The scene where the main characters fight with foreigners using a translator give us new and familiar feeling. Light Korean story of this movie made easier for Korean people who feel awkward about SCI-FI movies to approach SCI-FI movie.

On the other hand, some people said, the movie has a wide worldview, but the story is unsatiSci-Fiactory and that it has an ordinary story. In terms of technology, Space Sweepers is comparable to other Sci-Fi films. CG(Computer Graphics) and actors' acting were natural, so I could concentrate while watching the movie. The characters in the movie are composed of attractive characters. As the story is lack, the characters fill it up.

To sum up, Space Sweepers has lack story compared to other Sci-Fi movies story but CGs, characters, production are good. Space Sweepers is very meaningful in that it has produced a proper SCI-FI movie in Korea and it has ran at the box office.

Starting with Space Sweepers I hope various and different movies will be released in the Korean movie industry, which had limited genres. And someday I hope Korean SCI-FI movie to develop shoulder to shoulder with famous SCI-FI movies.
