Professor Myung-Sun Lee of the Department of Biomedical Science at Cheongju University, an authority in the domestic biotechnology field, was awarded the “Female Scientist of the Year”.


Cheongju University(President Chun-Soo Cha) announced on the 25th that Professor Myung-Seon Lee of the Department of Biomedical Science was selected as the “Female Scientist of the Year”.


Professor Lee Myung-seon received the “Female Scientist of the Year”.(in the promotion section) at the “2020 Women's Scientists and Technicians Annual Conference,” a venue for solidarity exchanges with women science and technology conducted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.


Professor Lee Myung-seon has shown extraordinary interest in nurturing female science and technology personnel and supporting and creating jobs. Last year, she took over as the 20th president of the National Federation of Women Professors and held an academic conference, contributing to the cultivation of female scientists.


In addition, she received the Mentor Award for her participation in the women's science and technology training project and mentoring, and was recognized for her contribution to fostering women manpower and job support by participating as the supervisor of the regional leading manpower training project. It is said that these made her to won the “Female Scientist of the Year”.


Professor Lee Myung-seon said, “With the government's fostering policies that encourage female students to enter science and engineering fields such as WISE and WISET, the proportion of female students in the science and engineering field is increasing, and the employment rate is also improving.”


“We will focus on cultivating talented women by encouraging female talents with competence and competitiveness in science and technology, where female activities are relatively weak, to advance into science and engineering.”


Professor Lee Myung-sun who graduated from the Department of Science Education at Ewha Womans University and completed her master's and doctoral (biology and genetics major) courses at the same graduate school is an expert in the field of life sciences in Korea.


Professor Lee has served as the head of the Department of Biomedical Science at Cheongju University, the Director of the Biomedipam Industry-Academic Convergence Group, and a member of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety Medical Device Committee.


Currently, she is serving as a director of the Korean Genetic Society and an academic director of the Future City Research Institute.


Women's Scientists and Technicians Annual Conference is an event to promote solidarity exchanges among women science and technology fields, such as discovering and disseminating excellent cases, and promoting morale through awarding institutions and men of national merit that have worked hard to improve the status of women scientists and engineers.
