Cheongju University has reorganized academic structure to cultivate future talents for the 4th Industrial Revolution. The reorganized academic structure is to develop the ability for students to use in society and to create the convergent talent that the industry demands recently.


Look at the overall reorganization of the academic structure. The new academic structure has become slimmer than the existing one. It improved the quality of classes by reducing the number of the department and student.


By increasing the area of the academic structure, each student can a wide choice of major. And by taking the class once at the designated time, it enabled students to use their time better.


Among the various reorganizations, at this article, I am going to write about the most impressive undergraduate system. The changed academic structure consists of 7 colleges, 15 undergraduate and 51 majors.


Before I talk about the undergraduate system, Now, Look at the differences between the undergraduate system and the department system. The department system is literally divided according to the content of education.


For example, when academic structure was department system, there were separate departments of mass communication and journalism and advertising and PR. With the introduction of the undergraduate system, there combined to become the undergraduate of Media Contents.


In another example, the Department of Biological Sciences and the Department of Biomechanical were combined to become the Department of BT Convergence.


The undergraduate system has several functions. First, the system cultivates practical and convergent talents that are recently required at society. Second, students can choose a wider range of career paths because they choose their majors after admission.


Third, students can learn variously within their interests. In the undergraduate system, students take various classes in first grade. Then, they select the areas they want to learn more in detail
at the end of the first grade.


And from the second year, students learn the major they chose. In the senior year, they intensively study their chosen major to increase knowledge about their major.


I interviewed students' thought of the undergraduate system. This interview mainly composed of students who entered the department system. A biotechnology student who entered school in 2017 said, After the undergraduate system, less relevance subjects were combined.


So, there is a lot of unnecessary content what students are learning. And because the lines of the departments become unclear, each department unity will weaken.”


Same biotechnology student who entered school in 2015 Evaluated more positive of the undergraduate system. This student said, “Student will study harder to go to a department with strong competition at first grade course that may be neglected.“

In another opinion, Biomedical student who entered school in 2017 said, “When the undergraduate system is implemented, the absurdity in a specific department affects other departments that are combined.


Students' thoughts about the undergraduate system were both positive and negative. Those who experienced the department system have more negative opinions.


The opinions of students who entered the undergraduate system is good to have a wide range of career options and to meet people with various dreams. The superficial lecture does not seem to be helpful. Students' awareness of the undergraduate system is generally high.


Students do not know the details of the structure, but they know roughly. Cheong Ju university tried to transform into a new school by applying the changed academic structure.


But, Students could not attend school because covid-19 was prevail. The new academic structure prepared by Cheongju University was Stagnate. So, the impact of the changed academic structure on schools and students will know After the proper class.


The fact that has not been long time after the undergraduate system was implemented and the negative thoughts of students familiar with the department system will not give the school a big advantage.


What the students ask for in the interview is to create practical convergent talents by regrouping Departments with close relations. Reduce unnecessary lectures but Increasing lectures that will really help is necessary.


we will have to watch the new academic structure a little more. Since, listening to students’ opinions, University should make new policy that to activate the advantages of the undergraduate system. The future will shine even more, If School and student change school in a better direction together.
