2026 Our University Student Council ‘JUMPING UP’ Direction and Key Initiatives of the 2026 Student Council
In 2026, the “JUMPING UP” election headquarters was elected in the Cheongju University student council election, marking the beginning of a new year. During the last winter vacation, the council engaged in negotiations with the university regarding to the tuition fee increases and has since continued its actives efforts by organizing events such as the “Haeoreum Festival” and the “Youth in Full Bloom” festival. These activities have received positive feedback from students, raising the expectations for the council’s future leadership and activities.

Interview with the “JUMPING UP” Student Council Following the launch of the 59th “JUMPING UP” Student Council, an interview was conducted with Vice President Kim Seung Min (hereafter referred to as Kim) to review the progress of key campaign pledges, discuss future plans, and explore the council’s communication strategies and vision for the student community. The interview focused on identifying the direction and goals of the current student council. Kim stated, “By taking the valuable voices of our 12,000 students as the guiding benchmark for our policies, we will build a student council that ensures campus life shines brighter today than it did yesterday,” adding, “I will prove my role as through results that go beyond responsibility.” Regarding the standards the council aims to establish, he emphasized, “‘A student council that responsibly fulfills what should naturally be done’ is our new benchmark,” explaining that the goal is not simply to carry out numerous projects, but to demonstrate pledge fulfillment through measurable outcomes and deliver tangible changes that students can truly feel. He further added, “We will restore trust in the student council through realized results, not empty promises.” On the progress of campaign pledges, Kim explained, “We are approaching each area with careful planning to prove our pledges as results, not just promises,” and went on to outline the current status. In the areas of tuition and scholarships, the council aims to minimize student’s financial burden. “We entered negotiations with the principle of freezing tuition and were able to reduce the university’s proposed 3.19% increase to 2.8%,” he noted, adding, “We will closely monitor to ensure that benefits exceeding the increase are returned to students.” He also highlighted improvements in accessibility by establishing an integrated scholarship information system through social media. In the fields of employment and education, the council is focused on ensuring practical growth and student rights. “Based on survey results, we are strengthening partnerships and promotion with various employment platforms in collaboration with the career support team,” he said. He also mentioned that the academic credit recognition system for military service is currently undergoing administrative procedures, including revisions to university regulations, with efforts being made to achieve visible results within the term. Regarding culture and welfare, he explained that efforts are being made to enhance both enjoyment and convenience in campus life. “We successfully organized the Haeoreum Festival and the ‘Youth in Full Bloom’ event,” he said, adding that initiatives such as Adobe partnerships and group textbook purchases are helping to reduce academic burdens, while facility maintenance and improvements in communication infrastructure are also under ongoing discussion. He added, “‘The new standard’ ultimately refers to changes that students can directly experience,” and expressed his commitment by stating, “Throughout the remainder of our term, we will deliver sincere and meaningful results, not superficial achievements.” As for the most prioritized project currently underway, he selected the “Uam Daedong Festival.” Kim stated, “Festivals are the highlight of university culture and the moment when students most directly feel a sense of belonging to the student community,” adding that the council aims to set a new standard through a high-quality festival that goes beyond mere entertainment and instills pride in Cheongju University. Among past activities, he highlighted the Haeoreum Festival and “Youth in Full Bloom” as representative examples. “We focused on creating festivals where students actively participate as the main characters,” he explained. In particular, “‘Youth in Full Bloom,’ a newly planned event, received great responses by carefully reflecting student needs,” noting that elements such as blind dates, picnic mat zones, singing contests, and experiential booths transformed the festival from something to watch into something to create together. He evaluated that these efforts led to increased voluntary participation among students. When asked about regrets, he pointed to the tuition negotiations. “Although we aimed for a freeze, we were unable to fully achieve it, and I feel a strong sense of responsibility,” he said, adding that the council will continue to analyze the university’s financial operations and ensure that benefits exceeding the increase are returned to students. Regarding future plans, he shared, “We are preparing for events such as the ‘Uam Daedong Festival,’ the ‘University Sports Festival,’ a ‘Group Viewing Project,’ and a ‘Chungbuk National University Joint Marathon.’” He emphasized efforts to strengthen participatory culture and a sense of community where all students can feel like protagonists. He added, “Until the very end of our term, we will continue striving to create a campus where students feel both proud and eager to participate.” As for anticipated challenges, he identified festival management as the most significant. “Ensuring thorough safety management and operational excellence for events of this scale is our greatest task,” he explained, noting the heavy responsibility of meeting heightened expectations while maintaining a completely safe environment. To address these challenges, he stated, “We are systemizing safety through emergency response manuals and pre-event simulations, while also enhancing the quality of student-centered content.” On communication with students, he emphasized that “transparent sharing” and “tangible reflection” are key. “We share policies and projects transparently through official social media and Every time, and immediately reflect feedback through surveys and on-site responses,” he said. He added that plans include expanding offline meetings and sharing the entire policy process in a timeline format to further build trust. In closing, Kim stated, “The ultimate destination of every step taken by the student council is to improve the daily lives of our students.” He acknowledged that while challenges and limitations arise, “it is the valuable voices of students that enable us to move forward again.” Addressing students as “the true protagonists of every moment,” he emphasized a commitment to creating real, meaningful change rather than superficial achievements, and to listening with humility until the very end. He concluded by saying, “Your passion and participation are the beginning of change at our university, and we will walk alongside you as equal partners on that path.”
The interview suggests that the future trajectory of the “JUMPING UP” Student Council is worth close attention. Amid major issues such as tuition, scholarships, and student welfare, there is growing interest in how the council will translate its commitment to prioritizing student voices into tangible policies and event management. In particular, the extent to which upcoming major events can go beyond simple entertainment and foster genuine participation and resonance among students is likely to influence overall evaluations of the student council. ‘JUMPING UP’ 총학생회와의 인터뷰
제 59대 ‘JUMPING UP’ 총학생회의 출범 이후 주요 공약 추진 현황과 향후 계획을 점검하고, 학우들과의 소통 방향 및 학생사회가 나아갈 비전을 살펴보기 위해 김승민 부총학생회장(이하 김 부총학생회장)과의 인터뷰를 진행했다. 이번 인터뷰는 총학생회의 활동 방향 및 목표 확인하는 방향으로 진행했다.
제 59대 ‘JUMPING UP’ 총학생회 부총학생회장 김승민은 “1만2천 학우들의 소중한 목소리를 정책의 이정표로 삼아, 우리가 마주하는 캠퍼스의 일상이 어제보다 오늘 더 빛날 수 있도록 실천하는 학생회를 만들겠다”며 “책임감 그 이상의 결과로 증명하는 부총학생회장이 되겠다”고 포부를 밝혔다.
김 부총학생회장은 이번 총학생회가 세우고자 하는 기준에 대해 “‘당연한 것을 당연하게 책임지는 학생회’가 새로운 기준”이라며 “단순히 많은 사업을 벌이는 것이 아니라 공약 이행률을 수치로 증명하고, 학우들이 체감할 수 있는 변화를 결과로 보여주겠다”고 강조했다. 이어 “‘말뿐인 약속’이 아닌 ‘실현된 결과’를 통해 학생회에 대한 신뢰를 다시 세우겠다”고 덧붙였다. 공약 추진 현황과 관련해 김 부총학생회장은 “공약을 단순한 약속이 아닌 ‘결과’로 증명하기 위해 분야별로 치밀하게 움직이고 있다”고 설명했다. 이후 현재까지의 주요 추진 현황에 대해 이어 설명했다. 취업 및 교육 분야에서는 실질적인 성장과 권리를 보장하는 방향성을 지님으로써 “설문조사를 바탕으로 취업지원팀과 협력해 다양한 취업 플랫폼 제휴 및 홍보를 강화하고 있다”며 “군 복무 학점 인정 제도는 현재 학칙 개정 등 행정 절차가 진행 중으로, 임기 내 가시적인 성과를 낼 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 전했다. 문화 및 복지 분야에 대해서는 캠퍼스 생활의 즐거움과 편의를 더하기 위해 “해오름제와 ‘청춘만개’ 행사를 성공적으로 마쳤다”며 “어도비 제휴 및 교재 공동구매를 통해 학습 부담을 줄이고, 시설 보수와 통신 품질 개선도 지속적으로 협의 중”이라고 설명했다. 이에 덧붙여 “‘새로운 기준’은 결과적으로 학우분들이 체감하는 변화”라며 “남은 임기도 보여주기식 성과가 아닌, 진심이 담긴 결과로 보답하겠다”며 포부를 밝혔다. 현재 가장 중점적으로 추진 중인 사업으로는 ‘우암 대동제’를 꼽았다. 김 부총학생회장은 “축제는 대학 문화의 꽃이며 학우들이 학생사회의 소속감을 가장 직접적으로 체감하는 순간”이라며 “단순히 즐기는 시간을 넘어 ‘우리대학교의 자부심’을 느낄 수 있는 고품격 축제를 통해 새로운 기준을 제시하겠다”고 전했다.
그간의 활동 중에서는 ‘해오름제’와 ‘청춘만개’를 대표 사례로 들었다. 그는 “‘주인공으로 직접 참여하는 축제’를 만드는 데 중점을 뒀다”며 “신규 기획된 ‘청춘만개’는 학우들의 니즈를 세밀하게 반영해 큰 호응을 얻었다”며 그중에서도 “블라인드 소개팅, 돗자리존, 가요제, 체험형 부스 등을 통해 ‘보는 축제’에서 ‘함께 만드는 축제’로 전환했다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “이러한 시도는 학우들의 자발적인 참여로 이어졌다”고 평가했다.
지금까지의 활동들 중 아쉬운 점으로는 등록금 협상을 언급했다. 김 부총학생회장은 “동결을 목표로 협상했지만 이를 관철하지 못한 점에 대해 무거운 책임감을 느낀다”며 “대학 재정 운영을 면밀히 분석해 인상분 이상의 혜택이 학생들에게 돌아가도록 끝까지 감시하겠다”고 말했다. 향후 계획에 대해서는 “‘우암 대동제’, ‘총체육대회’, ‘단체관람 프로젝트’, ‘충북대 연합 마라톤’ 등을 준비하고 있다”며 “모든 학우가 주인공이 되는 참여형 문화와 공동체 의식을 강화하겠다”고 밝혔다. 추가적으로 “임기가 끝나는 순간까지 ‘참여하고 싶고, 자부심을 느끼는 캠퍼스’를 형성하기 위해 쉼 없이 달려가겠다”며 덧붙였다.
올해 활동에서의 예상되는 가장 큰 어려움으로는 축제 운영을 꼽았다. 그는 “축제 규모에 걸맞은 완벽한 안전 관리와 운영의 내실화가 가장 큰 과제”라며 “대학의 가장 상징적인 행사인 만큼, 학우들의 높아진 기대치에 부웅하면서도 단 한거의 사고 없는 안전한 환경 조성에 대한 막중한 책임감을 느끼고 있다”는 점을 전했다. 이러한 어려운 점을 극복하기 위해 총학생회가 준비한 대응 방안으로써 “비상 상황 대응 매뉴얼 구축과 사전 시뮬레이션을 통해 안전을 시스템화하고, 학우 중심의 콘텐츠 질을 높이겠다”고 설명했다.
총학생회와 학우들 과의 소통 방식에 대해서는 “‘투명한 공유’와 ‘체감되는 반영’이 핵심”이라며 “공식 SNS와 에브리타임을 통해 정책과 사업을 가공되지 않은 사실 그대로 공유하고, 설문조사와 현장 피드백을 통해 의견을 즉각 반영하고 있다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “향후 오프라인 간담회와 현장 소통을 확대하고, 정책 전 과정을 타임라인 형태로 공유해 신뢰를 높이겠다”고 덧붙였다.
끝으로 김 부총학생회장은 “총학생회의 모든 걸음의 목적지는 ‘학우 여러분의 더 나은 일상’”이라 전했다. “총학생회가 마주한 산적한 과제들 속에서 때로는 한계에도 부딪히기도 하지만, 학우분들의 소중한 목소리 덕분에 다시 움직일 수 있었다”는 진심을 보였으며 “모든 시간의 주인공인 학우 여러분들”에게 “‘보여주기식 성과’가 아닌 실질적인 변화를 만들고, 마지막 순간까지 가장 낮은 자세로 경청하며 실천하겠다”는 메세지를 전했다. 마지막으로 “학우분들의 열정과 참여가 곧 우리 대학을 바꾸는 변화의 시작”이며 “변화의 길 위에서 언제나 여러분과 나란히 걷는 등등한 동반자가 되겠다”는 마지막 인사를 덧붙였다.
인터뷰를 통해 본 앞으로의 ‘JUMPING UP’ 총학생회의 행보는 더욱 주목해볼 필요가 있어 보인다. 등록금, 장학, 복지 등 굵직한 현안 속에서도 학생들의 목소리를 중심에 두겠다는 목표를 실제 정책과 행사 운영으로 어떻게 실제로 이어갈지 관심을 불러 일으킨다. 특히 예정된 주요 행사들이 단순한 이벤트를 넘어 학우들의 참여와 공감을 얼마나 이끌어낼 수 있을지에 따라 학우들의 총학생회에 대한 평가도 달라질 것으로 보인다. 올해 남은 임기 동안 총학생회의 행보에 기대와 관심이 이어질 것으로 보인다. |
